Anuradhapura


Sri lanka’s first capital, Anuradhapura established from the 4th Century BC. Anuradhapura was remaining more than 10 centuries as the capital. Anuradhapura classified as one of the UNESCO world heritage site. Old town of Anuradhapura consist almost all the attractions in the city as follows;



Thuparamaya, the first dagoba built in Anuradhapura.
Ruwanweli Seya, one of the biggest dagoba in the world buily by King Dutugemunu.
Jethawanaramaya, a large monastic complex.
Abayagiriya Dagoba, Founded by King Valagambahu in 1st Century BC.
Srimaha Bodiya, brought to Sri lanka in 3rd Century BC by Sangamitta Arahat Theri, This is the right branch of the Bodhi tree under which Siddartha Thero attained enlightenment.
Loha Maha Prasada or Brazen palace founded in 2nd century BC.
Isurumuniya rock Temple ( 3rd century BC).
Samadhi Bouddha, an anonymous master-sculptor of the Anuradhapura period.
Mihintale, where the Buddhism was introduced to sri Lanka in 247 BC.
Aukana, situated 51kms away from Anuradhapura where you will find a Huge granite statue of Buddha.
